- Not always — many homes don't need it on a schedule. It makes sense after a remodel, after pest activity, when there's visible dust at the registers, or if anyone in the home has serious allergies. We'll tell you straight if your ducts don't need it.
- Higher MERV catches smaller particles — but also restricts airflow. MERV 11–13 is the sweet spot for most homes in the metro. Going higher than your blower can handle wastes electricity and shortens system life.
- Yes — significantly. A HEPA-grade portable unit or a whole-home media filter sized to your system handles the PM2.5 particles in wildfire smoke. We also seal up duct leaks that pull unfiltered outdoor air into the system.
- They reduce mold and bacteria growth on the indoor coil — which is real and useful. They are not a magic air-cleaning device. We install them as part of a fuller IAQ plan, not as a standalone fix.
